They told their guests to dress like it was a 1970s Met Gala, the bride wore hot pink and yellow and the groom, a suit with Kermit and Miss Piggy on the back – yep, it’s safe to say Millie and Dan’s Brighton wedding was anything but conventional.

“We wanted a wedding that was maximalist, colourful, kitschy, and with a nod to our favourite things—like the Muppets”, Millie told us. “Kermit and Miss Piggy’s love story was deeply rooted in our wedding!”

The glamour of Elvis and Priscilla’s 1969 Las Vegas wedding was also a big inspiration, but they put their own colourful, 1970s Met Gala twist on it. Guests were encouraged to overdress. “We wanted everyone to embrace the fun and extravagance of it all. Our dress code was 70s Met Gala, honouring our favourite fashion era and asking our guests to overdress to impress! Our theme colours were pink, yellow and green, and everything was coordinated to match!”

True to their unconventional approach, Millie and Dan broke many wedding traditions. They spent the night before the wedding together, got ready side by side, and even walked down the aisle together. “After all it’s a day for us, why would we want to be apart!?” Millie said.

The couple walked down the aisle to Love Me by The 1975, the song they danced to when they first became a couple at just 15 years old. After exchanging vows, they exited the ceremony to Too Late To Turn Back Now by Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose, with confetti thrown by the evening guests who had just arrived outside.

The Green Door Store in Brighton, one of the couple’s favorite venues, provided the perfect setting for their reception. They didn’t have a traditional first dance, Millie and Dan kicked off the evening with karaoke and an award ceremony. They also had a merch table to help raise money for their dream Vegas honeymoon! “We wanted everyone to feel like they were part of the show,” Dan says with a grin. “It was less about us being the centre of attention and more about creating an amazing experience for everyone.”

A highlight of the night was a performance by Suspiciously Elvis, followed by a set from Dan’s band, SAD DADS. “It was the best moment of my life when Dan sang All In White by The Vaccines, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room,” Millie recalled.

The couple loved crafting up a storm for the wedding, creating everything from the stationery, banners, photo op cut outs and festival style wristbands themselves. Dan even sculpted award show trophies. One of Millie’s favourite projects was working with Elizabeth Whibley on her outfit. She explains, “It felt like my own Met Gala! Our biggest expense was our outfits but being a maximalist fashionista power couple in a sea of white dresses and suits can be daunting! I knew Elizabeth would be perfect, we’ve been friends for while and i’m a huge admirer of her work. It was worth every single penny
to support her and her talent, I can’t imagine wearing anything else!”

Reflecting on their wedding day, Millie and Dan are filled with gratitude and joy. “Aside from becoming a wife,” Millie smiled, “my favourite moment was being serenaded by my husband. I am so honoured to be in love and be loved in return! The alternative wedding industry is so inspiring and its amazing that people are starting to think about the future of weddings that have personality rather than just tradition I hope the industry continues to build on this and push for more inclusion!”

“READ ROCK N ROLL BRIDE!” Millie advised in conclusion (we couldn’t agree more!). “Honestly, you gave me so much inspiration and helped me think of all the things I would’ve forgot so thank you for existing!”
