Yes you read that right – a gothic AND rainbow themed wedding…if you’re wondering how can two such different themes co-exist in one wedding then wonder no more because that’s exactly what Sadie and John had! With the help of Intertwined Events, they pulled off the most creative version of the bride’s vision. She wanted a colourful, artistic day but with alternative, gothic-esque touches that really felt like them.

“As a painter and fine artist, my world revolves around colour—its power to evoke emotion, tell stories, and celebrate life”, the bride told us. “This deep connection to colour drove our wedding’s unique theme, transforming it into a living, breathing canvas. We embraced a palette that radiated warmth and joy: pink, red, orange, and yellow, accented by green and gold. The entire wedding was a tribute to the beauty of a paint palette gradient, with tables and sections meticulously colour-coded to create a visual feast. The orange and yellow sections, my personal favourites, mirrored the happiest shades of my soul.”

This approach wasn’t just about aesthetics though; it was a narrative thread, weaving from the invitations that Sadie designed (a colourful floral arrangement featuring roses, cannabis fan leaves, a bumblebee, two butterflies and a ladybug for good luck) and extending to the floral dance floor and colourful wedding cake.

“Our wedding wasn’t just an event; it was a masterpiece of our love”, she continued, highlighted by the artwork that encapsulated our journey. The vibrant dance floor was a real highlight and became the centrepiece of our celebration, perfectly ‘us’ in every way.”

One of the most unforgettable moment of the day was Sadie’s dad’s performance. As the bassist for the Stray Cats, a rockabilly band that soared in popularity during the 80s, his performance was more than a musical interlude—it was a deeply meaningful gesture connecting their family’s history to the joyous celebration of their future.

“Having him play, with my brother on guitar, electrified the atmosphere and bridged generations through the iconic sound of rock and roll,” Sadie recalls. “It was a moment where time stood still.” Her mum was also incredibly supportive throughout the wedding planning process, helping Sadie with everything from emotional support, practical advice, or just being there to share the workload, “I couldn’t have done it without her!” she said.

“I wish I’d known that no matter how long you choose to be in the planning phase, if you’re a perfectionist like me, you’ll be planning until the very last second!” the bride concluded. “It’s just part of wanting everything to be just right, but it’s important to remember to enjoy the process and not get too caught up in the details. My advice to other couples is to make your day uniquely yours. Focus on what truly matters to you and your partner, and don’t be afraid to infuse your personalities into every detail. Also, savour every moment of the journey, from planning to the big day itself, and take the time to enjoy being engaged. This is a special chapter in your lives—embrace it fully.”
