Katelyn and Zak’s October wedding was a dreamy escape into nature. The couple chose Olympic National Park in Washington for their micro wedding, drawn by its breathtaking beauty and the opportunity to explore more of the Pacific Northwest. Having only visited Portland and Seattle once a few years ago, their wedding gave them the perfect reason to return and create new memories.

“We never wanted a big traditional wedding,” Katelyn shared. “But we did want to bring about 15 of our loved ones along for the adventure. We were able to split up the day with time spent exploring the park just the two of us and celebration time with our family who had traveled across the US with us.”

One of the biggest challenges was finding lodging for everyone in such a remote area. Katelyn and Zak ended up booking an A-frame cabin for themselves while arranging for their family to stay in hotels in nearby towns. The logistics were tricky, but the result was a perfect blend of privacy and togetherness.

Zak’s mom officiated the ceremony, which was held overlooking the lake. “She took the job very seriously,” Katelyn said with a smile. “It was a beautiful and intimate ceremony on the dock at Lake Crescent, overlooking the emerald green water.”

For their reception, Katelyn and Zak also opted for a very non-traditional approach. They ordered beautiful charcuterie boards, cake and cupcakes which everyone enjoyed at one of the public picnic areas in the park. After they’d done their photos, everyone joined them for a bonfire on the beach.

One of the highlights of the day was their first dance on the beach to Paramore as the sun set. “It was the perfect end to a sunny Fall day,” Katelyn concluded.
