Celestial Disco Wedding in Bali

Kasara and Chris’ wedding in Ubud, Bali, was in the works for two years before they were finally able to celebrate. Traveling, trip planning and exploring new places is when they are both happiest, so a destination wedding to a place neither they or their guests had ever been before just made sense to them.

“Before discovering Rock n Roll Bride I was planning the type of wedding that I thought you had to have”, Kasara told us. “The white dress, neutral colours and no personality. Ultimately, while this style of wedding is considered ‘timeless’ it didn’t spark joy for us. I didn’t realise what was possible, to have a wedding that truly represented us as a couple; quirks, colour, sparkle, and all, until I discovered your magazine.”

And we’re so pleased they found us because the result was absolutely breathtaking! The Aussie couple eventually chose a theme which meant a lot to them. “I love glitter, and Chris always lets me shine, so we knew there was going to be lots of sparkle,” Kasara shared. “And with their wedding date aligning with a full moon, our Celestial Disco theme was born.”

They executed this theme with a few thoughtful touches throughout the décor. Of course there were plenty of disco balls but they also especially picked their table set up to include chargers that looked like full moons and had a blue checkered dance floor made to match the midnight blue colour scheme.

“One of our favourite details, the disco floral arrangements hanging above the dining tables, were a wonderful combination of magic, moodiness and disco”, the bride continued. “When we first walked down to see the reception area, we were both in awe that it exceeded our expectations and captured the mood we wanted perfectly.”

“Our attire played a part too, with myself picking a head-to-toe beaded gown and having my bridesmaids be my disco balls in silver sequin dresses. Chris’ tux played into the theme as well, choosing to wear a deep blue jacket and pants layered with a black vest accented with pops of sparkle that almost looked like silver stars.”

For wedding favours, they wanted something unique and meaningful so hired a local tattoo artist to come and do real tattoos for anyone who wanted one. “Our favourite souvenir to get when traveling is actually a tattoo”, Kasara explained, “so we decided to share this with our guests and hired a tattoo artist to do flash pieces during our reception.”

“Another highlight of the reception was our place cards. It was a detail we
decided to add last minute, but was so worth it. We had Sarah from Peach Wolfe design our thank you cards, which doubled as our place cards within our stationery suite. Originally, we planned to set aside a day during our travels in Japan (en route to the wedding) to leisurely write them at a café. However, we got caught up in our travels and we ended up writing them all the night before. Despite the last-minute rush, it was entirely worth it. Our guests loved the personal touch, and it served as a heartfelt way for us to show how much we appreciated them traveling all the way to Bali to celebrate.”

Kasara concluded with some great advice for other couples planning their weddings, “For anyone not connecting with typical wedding themes, but still wanting to host a super awesome party to celebrate the love of your life with all your friends and family… keep on exploring. Your perfect wedding vibe is out there waiting for you, and if you stick with it, you’ll stumble upon inspiration that feels totally you. We found ourselves initially uninspired by mainstream North American wedding trends and budgets and didn’t really know where we fit in and if a wedding was for us. It wasn’t until we stumbled upon Rock n Roll Bride that we we realised what was all possible for our wedding and that it could truly reflect us.”
