A Road Trip with A Zion National Park Elopement

The Costa Sisters

The amazing thing about a destination elopement is that it doesn’t need to be just a one-day event. For Beci and Steve, who traveled to the US from the UK for their wedding, it turned into a week-long adventure! With a few loved ones and their videographers/ photographers, The Costa Sisters, in tow, they started in Vegas, took a road trip through Valley of Fire, and finally arrived in Zion, Utah, for their ceremony.

“Our theme was mainly the gorgeous backdrop of Zion National Park in Utah, but there was certainly a simplistic boho/ western vibe too”, Beci told us. “We have a shared love of America, especially an American road trip, but we’re also very different. Steve is a classic introvert while I’m a classic extrovert. And when the stress of planning a wedding started to set in quite early (for me), as well as the daunting idea of standing in front of lots of people doing speeches and first dances (for Steve), one of us joked about eloping – and it very quickly became a reality when we realised how much of a weight lifted from our shoulders!”

Their wedding day began at Pine Creek Canyon Overlook in Zion National Park, with an early morning start at 4 am. “It was an epic morning, but it was also bloody freezing!” Beci laughed. Despite the cold, the joy and excitement of the day were palpable. “I’ll never forget the giggles we had hiking alongside the beautiful red rocks in our wedding gear, looking out over the incredible landscape as the sun rose around us—a definite bucket list moment!”

The actual ceremony, though brief, was filled with special moments. “In hindsight, I’m so pleased that we did invite a few family members,” Beci reflected. “My dad sadly passed away not too long after the wedding, and I’m so incredibly grateful that he was there.”

Their officiant, Mikey, brought humor and local knowledge to the ceremony. “He made some cracking jokes at our expense and knew the area so well,” Beci said. “It’s very hard to get permission to get married in Zion Park itself, so we planned to get married nearby. But when we met Mikey, he took us to a place just down the road that was absolutely stunning and really elevated our simple ceremony to something epic. Even with this last minute change it just felt like everything worked out perfectly. It was like it was meant to be.”

After the ceremony and photos around Zion and the surrounding areas, they headed back to their hotel for Mexican food, music, drinking games and doughnuts with their loved ones.

Other than their honeymoon, their biggest cost was flying to The Costa Sisters over with them for their photos and video. “They were worth every penny! We did look into local Utah photographers – who mostly offered a very traditional looking, short, one-day photo shoot for A LOT of money – and they didn’t really give us what we wanted. But one look at The Costa Sister’s website and we knew they could give us something modern, fresh but most of all, fun! And for a similar price we managed to cover their travel, two full days of shooting, and made two new friends along the way. We’re so pleased with the results!”
