Jamey and Serena’s were married against the stunning backdrop of Honolulu, Hawaii. The couple exchanged vows on a yacht, with the captain officiating, and celebrated afterwards in the luxurious Penthouse suite of the Moana Surfrider Hotel. The couple met through water sports so having an ocean and nautical themed wedding made sense for them.
“We met through Dragon Boat racing, and we often travel to destinations near the ocean, so we wanted a wedding that would feature elements from the ocean from start to finish”, the bride told us. “If Poseidon had a wedding, we’d like to think it would look like ours.”
Their chosen colours were teal, aqua and gold – the bride even had teal hair for the occasion! They also incorporated seashells and the ocean into just about every part of the day. The bride’s bouquet was made of shells, they had a shark cake topper, coral as part of the centrepieces and starfish on the bridesmaids bouquets and groomsmen’s buttonholes. Their place names were oyster shells painted gold around the edges, with a pearl clued to the middle and written on by a calligrapher. They saved money by not using any fresh flowers.
The groom is blind, so they included lots of tactile elements and details. Their most memorable moment of the day was their ‘first look’ where Jamey used his hands to feel Serena’s hair, crown and dress while she described everything to him, “It almost brought us both to tears”, she said.
“Planning a wedding overseas while working full time was hard!” Serena admitted. “I used every ounce of spare time when I wasn’t working to plan…Finding vendors who could bring my vision to life was tough, but so worth it. Being able to infuse my love of the ocean into every single detail made the whole process so fun!”
