With a total budget of just £2,000, Riley and Liam’s wedding is a masterclass in how you don’t have to spend a fortune to get married! They had a small ceremony with just a couple of guests, at York Register Office followed by dinner at Fancy Hanks, an American bar and kitchen in the city.
“We wanted as little chaos as possible”, Riley told us. “We’re quite laid back people, so we wanted a no fuss wedding! Also, as it was a small wedding, we didn’t want to create a theme or a huge amount of work – we originally had a larger wedding booked with a theme and colours involved, however we later opted for something more intimate as it suited us more.”
The bride wore a dress which she found at MONKI, a Sister Jane headband and Irregular Choice shoes while the groom wore a suit from ASOS and Creeper shoes. “We wanted to ditch the classic suit and bridalwear for something that felt more ‘us’,” Riley shared. “This made us feel quite comfortable and ‘cool’ within ourselves, I think we would have felt less at ease if we were wearing a more formal suit or wedding dress. We both wanted to wear something we would wear in real life outside of a wedding and also could wear again!”
After the ceremony, they walked around the cobbled streets of York with their photographer Ryan, which was their favourite part of the day. Then came dinner at Fancy Hanks, “It’s a small venue and we had booked a private room out upstairs”, the bride continued, “we ate good food and drank the evening away with some lovely music playing! It was a small wedding party but we really enjoyed the aspect of getting to speak to every one of our guests – whereas if we had a big wedding we would’ve felt a little overwhelmed and rushed!”
“Our advice for future couples is to not stress about the little things”, she concluded. “I know it’s easier said than done, but to just relax and enjoy the process. It doesn’t have to be stressful and it should be enjoyable.”
