We all know weddings can be spendy events, but they don’t have to be! Kieren and Anthony’s day proves this point as their day was entirely DIY and cost under $10,000 (AU). The couple approached wedding planning with a laid-back attitude, incorporating their love of music and a hint of all thing spooky. The rustic, farm location also provided a really unique and relaxed feel to the day.
“We were inspired by our interests”, Kieren told us, “we have always loved all things spooky and music so had a hint of skulls and guitars in the decor. With the venue having a rustic vibe, we wanted to incorporate that as well. We just wanted to have a fun filled day with the people we love the most. The day was relaxed, very simple and tasteful and not over the top.”
As they’d been together 10 years, the couple decided they didn’t want to wait til the ceremony to see each other so opted for first look photos. They then walked down the aisle to Sum 41. The bride was accompanied by their four year old son and her brother. They recited simple vows and then it was time to party!
The reception was all about the DIY with all the decorations meticulously crafted by Kieren and her mother. The centrepieces featured candles, fairy lights, flowers and tiny skulls. They had a fireplace which warmed up the entire room as they served a sit-down dinner of fried local squid, slow cooked pork belly, grilled whitefish and slow roast lamb.
“Our first dance was to Dreamer by Ozzy Osbourne, which we danced with our son joining in. It was one of those perfect moments that felt like it was just us,” Kieren recalls. They also had Polaroid cameras for guests to capture instant memories which they loved looking through after the wedding.
“We LOVED everything about our special day but we understand now why people elope!” the bride laughed. “Its a lot of planning and its over in a flash. However, I wouldn’t have done anything differently.”
