Jac and Matt’s November wedding was, like so many 2020 couples, smaller than they thought it would be. Although they didn’t get the big party of a wedding which they initially planned, after having to reschedule twice, they decided to pair everything back and just elope on a beach instead.
The couple met when they were teenagers but lost contact, only reconnecting in their mid-twenties. They had a ceremony at Sandringham Beach in Victoria followed by a cake cutting and drinks reception at the nearby park. Matt’s mum put together a platter of nibbles and made a cake, and Jac’s sister made a cocktail for everyone.
If you told me when I was 14 that I would marry Matt, I would never have guessed it”, Jac told us. “Matt is a beautiful kind soul, we have things in common but mostly we complement each other. We love traveling and entertaining friends and family. We are foodies and love growing our own veggies and making wine and tomato pasta. We also love music- all big elements that we tried to capture in our pre-COVID wedding plan.”
“The wedding was low fuss”, she continued, “no tizzy things we don’t like or unnecessary formality, just lots of time with people we love. The ceremony was the most beautiful bit of the day. Our celebrant wrote an incredibly personalised ceremony that fitted us to a tee. Because of restrictions, we picked a location last minute on the beach. We were surrounded by eight of the people dearest to us (our parents and siblings), with our grandparents watching down from a distant cliff area (we set up a speaker so they could hear) and exchanged our vows. It was very special despite all the changes we had faced getting to this point.”
The other thing they really loved about their day was that they had time as a couple to process everything that was going on. “Our photographer was great at stealing us away for great shots which gave us a breather from entertaining. Anna from Lulu and Lime also arranged for her brother to bring his vintage Lambretta to the beach so we could have photos on a vintage scooter – a beautiful and thoughtful gesture. It also really tied in with how Matt proposed to me while we driving a vintage fiat though the Tuscan countryside. The two photos of the vintage vehicles look great side by side in our home.”
