Bethnal Green’s Town Hall Hotel is a real hidden gem. From the original art deco interiors, the dramatic marble staircases, original wooden panelled rooms and their very own ceremony chambers, its the perfect spot for the wedding of East London-loving urban dwellers. The entire place has been sympathetically restored in its original art deco finery so stepping through those grand front doors really is a little bit like stepping back in time.
On Sunday 10th March they are hosting a wedding open day where you can go along, chat to their team, have a guided tour and meet some of their recommended suppliers. They include Grace & Thorn, Indecco (florists), Holly Clarke Cake Design, the Wedding Smashers (DJs), Photo Bot (photo booth), A Piece of the Party (videographer) Nicole Reynolds (pianist) and Blow Ltd (hair & make up).
You’ll be greeted with drinks and canapes and honestly, I can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The event is completely free and there’s no need to book, just show up and have a lovely time!

Dear internet, there are a lot of wedding fairs in 2013. A LOT. There's also a rather disproportionate amount of them claiming to be of the 'alternative' persuasion. In fact I don't think I've ever heard a word over-used so much to describe something wedding-related since the dreaded 'vintage' invasion of 2011. Whether this is a good or bad thing is still very much up for debate, but here on this little alternative wedding blog (ahem) I pride myself in only showcasing the very best and most exciting wedding fairs in all the land.

Call me cynical, but these days, I can't seem to move for a new 'alternative' wedding fair. They're cropping up all over the place this year, but there was just one that started it all...
In early 2012, Sassy of Assassynation Photography, Jo of The Couture Company and Rawhide Corsets and Vikki of Liliia had a dream. They dreamt of a wedding fair that was truly alternative and one that showcased only the best of the best alt wedding suppliers. They wanted to have a place to host the kinds of suppliers they saw ignored by other, mainstream and vintage, wedding events.

Vintage has become a bit of a dirty word in the wedding world. It's been overdone more than any trend' I've ever known... and in many cases pretty badly. But vintage weddings as a concept are beautiful and some of the most creative and beautiful weddings that I've featured have fallen under that 'vintage' banner. In fact vintage weddings are not limited to pearls, lace and mismatched crockery - they can be so much more than that, the only limit is your imagination.can be so much more than that, the only limit is your imagination.

Going to your first wedding show can be a daunting experience. However, if you’re properly prepared and you go in with an open mind they are really, really fun! One of my very favourite alternative wedding shows is The Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza which is taking place on March 16th & 17th in Birmingham. I’ll be there signing books and showcasing our brand-new veil collection with Crown and Glory (it’s the only wedding show you’ll be able to see these beauties in-person this season) so I hope to see lots of your beautiful faces there!

Over the past few years I've heard hundreds of stories from brides about searching for their dream wedding dress. Some have been fantastic experiences, others not so, but the resounding overall message was that finally finding 'the one' was an amazing feeling.
One of the names that seems to pop up again and again with the American brides that I interview is David's Bridal... and today I have some good news - they're coming to the UK!

One of my favourite things to do is speaking at events. As someone who used to suffer from crippling stage fright (and would avoid public speaking at all costs at school) this has been nothing but a surprise to me, let me tell you! But once you get over the anxiety, it really is super fun!
Which is why I was thrilled when the babes at Flourish and Prosper asked me to be involved their workshop, The Wedding Academy. This is the first business workshop specifically aimed at people in the wedding industry, and I for one can't wait to attend!

A few weeks ago I was invited by wedding dress designer Caroline Arthur to attend her Perfect Fit Event at the picturesque Gate Street Barn near Guildford. The day was put on, not just to promote the amazing suppliers involved, but to share information to help educate brides about how to get the right fit for their wedding dress. This is something Caroline is super passionate about so it was so inspiring to see her in action. I learnt so much too!
