Hollianne and Jonathan’s New Jersey wedding was inspired by their favourite couple: Gomez and Morticia from the Aadam’s Family.
The bride opted for a black evening gown from Sherri Hill instead of a traditional white dress. “I tried to find black wedding gowns but no one carries them in stock and it’s hard to try on something white and imagine it, yuck! At least buying an evening gown came at a severely discounted price ($480 if I remember correctly). My shoes were grey velvet brocade Doc Martens that I found on Amazon, three days before the wedding! I also wore a cute $5 headband I found at the mall (no shame in my thrift game). We didn’t have any flowers in the wedding and I made my own bouquet and the centrepieces with fake flowers from Michael’s and craft stores.”
Their ceremony and reception took place at Southern Mansion in Cape May, New Jersey and they decorated all the tables themselves. “For decor, I painted tall cylinder vases and put fake indigo hydrangeas in them with some sticks which I hung crystals from. For favours we made a family recipe of Apple Pie Moonshine and put it in little mason jars and labelled them ‘Love Potion’. Our cake topper, cufflinks, invite verbiage, and photo we had framed for people to sign were all Gomez and Morticia. We also have our fave couple tattooed on our arms with each others name.”
“My favourite part of the day, besides marrying my soulmate, was just having fun and sitting back and seeing how all of the planning came together. Oh and the food! We had BBQ chicken, mac n cheese, sweet potato casserole, Cajun potato salad, brisket, cornbread… I wish my dress allowed me more room to eat haha! Finally, our advice to other couples would be to DO WHAT YOU WANT and don’t listen to outsiders!”
