Vinique and Craig were married on their ten year anniversary. The day was inspired by steampunk and Victorian influences. “Our wedding was Victorian steampunk inspired with a hint of vintage and a twist of gothic charm!” said the bride. “Our inspiration came from what we love as a couple. It’s a celebration of who we are. We wanted it to be a reflection of our personalities and interests.”
“Everything was uniquely us and custom made by us. It was a celebration of our love for each other and our sons. We opted for a short, non-traditional ceremony keeping it neutral and light with a feel good celebratory message. While our guests where seated, and the groom made his entrance to Come to Me by the Goo Goo Dolls. I was walked down the aisle by my brother to Love You to Death by Type O Negative.”
Most of the wedding was DIY and the bride in particular loved doing all the projects. “I did the the invites, my bouquet, the boutonnieres and almost all the décor including signs, bunting, painted wine and beer bottles, table runners, napkin ties, placemats, table numbers, guest favours, the cake stand and cake topper. The best part of the wedding was seeing how all our ideas and planning fell into place.”
“My advice for other couples would be that it’s never too early to start with your planning and any DIY projects. Realise and except that life is unpredictable and small things might go wrong or things might not go the way you want or planned… Have other options for if something happens BUT make sure you LOVE your plan B or C as much as your first choice. Be cautious of suppliers, do your homework and speak to couples who have used them before.
“Find a venue best suited to your taste and theme as this will save you on décor cost and other expenses to make it into what you want. Do budget for a professional photographer and a videographer will be money well spent! Wedding planning can be amazing but also stressful a lot goes into planning a wedding and it can consume you so keep a balance. Have wedding-free time as a couple. Try and savour every moment, the day is over so quickly. Steal a moment with your spouse and take it all in!”
