When you get engaged the inevitable barrage of questions will soon follow: “Where’s the wedding taking place?” “Where’s the best place to stay nearby?” “What should we get you as a gift?” “What’s the dress code?” Setting up your own website (or ‘wed-site’ as you might have heard them referred to) is a quick and easy way to put all the information your guests might need in one place.
Just like so many brides-to-be, I started Rock n Roll Bride to document my wedding planning journey. I wanted an online space to share my ideas, talk about my plans and to connect with like-minded brides and grooms. While I didn’t use my blog as a ‘wed-site’ so to speak, I loved the freedom that a blog format gave me when it came to writing about my wedding online.
I used a platform called Blogger, which worked fine, but in all honestly it was pretty ugly, heavily branded with their own logos and, as a complete novice, not that easy to use… So much so that I accidentally deleted the whole thing in 2009, and had to start all over again!
If you’d like to start your own wedding blog or ‘wed-site’ and you’re as un-technically minded as I was (ahem, still am!) then you might want to check out Squarespace. The real beauty of this system is just how easy it is to use, and how even a complete beginner can get started and make their site look gorgeous, without needing to learn a single line of HTML!
Their beautiful and modern templates (of which there are six specifically for weddings) can be changed quickly and easily with their amazing drag and drop system, and every template is responsive meaning that your site will look just as great on a phone or tablet as it does on a 50 inch computer monitor.
Squarespace also include some pretty nifty features specifically with brides and grooms in mind. Not only can you post photos and information about your wedding and bridal party, but you can connect your gift list from anywhere else on the internet, or even add a cash gift list with ease.
However, one of the best additions has to be the ability to collect mailing addresses and RSVPs via your site. You can add a simple form that your friends and family can fill out and then their info will be automatically dropped into a Google spreadsheet! Talk about taking all of the pain out of the dreaded RSVP process!
Squarespace also makes it super easy for you to register your domain name. No longer do you have to go through a complicated registration process with an external hosting company, they’ll handle it all for you. Amazingly, a custom domain name is completely free with an annual subscription.
Custom wedding website and domains are available for as little as $8 per month and that includes 24/7 live chat and email customer support.
Reader Offer!
If that’s not enough to tempt you to give them a go, then how about a cheeky discount? Squarespace would like to offer all Rock n Roll Bride readers 10% off an annual subscription! Simply enter discount code ROCKNROLL when you register.
