Are you ready for some serious wedding envy? Don’t say I didn’t warn you… Brooke and Spencer had a lunchtime wedding in Texas in June, “I met Spencer at summer camp in Ardmore when I was 13 and he was 14. We had a friendship spanning over 10+ years until we both ended up in San Marcos, Texas where our friendship grew into something more. Our ceremony was performed by one of the counsellors from that summer camp!”
“The inspiration for our wedding was our venue, Le San Michele . I really was inspired by the landscape and décor. It was simple and beautiful. We bought flowers in bulk at Austin Flower Co . and I arranged the bouquets and boutonnieres. I also created the succulent planters with my sister. The vases were all found at thrift stores. We bulk ordered hand fans for wholesale online and made tags for each handle inscribed with the wedding date. A lot of the décor we spray painted with gold paint or mirror spray paint. ”
“We didn’t include most of the normal wedding events such as bouquet tossing, first dances, or a DJ style reception”, she continued. “We got married at high noon on a Sunday and had a wonderful bluegrass band to create the perfect atmosphere and vibe.”
“Having our wedding on Sunday was cheaper”, she concluded. “I also wore a dress from Free People which was under $200. Our biggest expense was actually the flowers, even though we arranged them ourselves. I love flowers and greenery so I had to splurge on them. Our other biggest expense was booze! We didn’t want a cash bar so we served mimosas and bloody marys with the brunch.”

I Love that Glove

Honestly? I struggled with what to write about today. Usually on a Sunday I'll post something non-wedding related that's caught my eye or I'll share something exciting that I've done in the week. But I shared my Photography Farm retreat escapades in this week's Thursday Treats and since then I've basically been chained to my computer replying to the squillions of emails that came in whilst I was away and writing as many blog posts as physically possible. I also spent rather a lot of time on the phone to Cosmopolitan Magazine. NO BIG DEAL (more on this soon!)
And then this wedding pinged into my inbox and it all became clear.

A lot of you will no doubt remember Whit and Colby's 'Non Wedding' shoot by the incredible Brooke Davis. It was one of my most popular wedding features of all time, and weirdly, sparked quite a bit of debate. But to those that said it was an irrelevant shoot with no real meaning to actual brides and grooms - today I present to you Alicia and Phill. After seeing those images not only booked Brooke to shoot their elopement, but went for their very own 'Non Wedding' theme - a secret ceremony and a party in their own back garden. Inspiration is everywhere.

A DIY ‘Glamping’ Wedding & a Bride with Pink Hair: Josie & Nick

I ain't gonna lie... I harbor a certain level favoritism for pink haired brides... hum, I wonder why!? So when I saw Josie & Nick's camping themed wedding I was very excited indeed. The couple didn't spend a bomb on the day, utlising things they already owned (hello, look at Jodie's awesome Antaina boots!), by having the reception in Nick's parent's back garden and by making as much of it as they could themselves.
"We DIY’ed everything", Jodie told me. "It can be really easy to bite off more than you can chew though so my advice would be to decide on a cohesive theme early on. Select projects you know you can complete both skill wise and in the time you have. And start early! Anything you can do well in advance is great."

Megan and Tom had a chilled out, backyard BBQ wedding held at a friend's house. "We wanted the whole experience to be a representation of ourselves and our relationship", Megan wrote. "While we wanted everything to look beautiful, we didn't want it to be perfect or overdone. I went shopping in thrift stores for all kinds of mismatched vases that would compliment each other. At the end of the night. guests were allowed to take all of the assortments home with them."

Featuring this wedding is a little bit extra special for me because I actually went to school with the bride, Emma! When she told me she was getting married, and hosting it in their own back garden, I insisted that she submit it to me afterwards. I'm so thrilled that she did! Emma is now a florist and owns the Green Parlour in Pangbourne, so clearly this wedding was going to be full of beautiful blooms. Just look her her bouquet! Epic or what?!
