Yep, that’s exactly what I thought when I saw this shoot – it’s super glam but, man, is it weird. Weird in a good way though… weird is always a compliment! The shoot consists of two parts. The first is more opulent, set in the incredible Gallery of Costume in Platt Hall, Manchester. The second part took place in the nearby woods.
“For this wedding shoot we wanted to add an air of whimsical decadence, suggestive of a provocative relationship and how that may work in the realm of modern weddings”, wrote florist David of Frog Flowers. “We used one bride and two male grooms as we wanted to evoke an edged romance mixed with an opulent wedding day. Is it a mischievous bride who wants her wedding cake and to eat it?”
“The location was inside Platt Hall in Manchester, a charming listed Georgian building containing The Gallery of Costume (one of the most outstanding collections of clothing and accessories in Britain) was an elegant stage for the shoot to be conceived. For the bride, two dresses were used inside, one beautiful floral brocade corset top dress and a Victorian inspired long sleeved dress with plenty of tulle for an extravagant veil were used for different wedding looks for the day.”
“We took the shoot outside to the surrounding grounds of the costume gallery for a more playful, fantasy feel”, he continued. “This was suggestive of an otherworldly, mystical, nature inspired wedding with a flavour of the modern world, incorporating a handmade deer antler back pack designed by local artist, Norfolk Hawker, and a vintage leather briefcase covered in flowers from Frog Flowers!”
“For the bride’s voluminous skirt we used extra layers of pale grey tulle which we gathered, draped and studded with random bird feathers for a lived in, wilder animalistic look. We partnered the tiered fur coat with large rings along with a handsome bamboo handled umbrella garnished with velvety deep red hanging Amaranthus flowers to finish the look.”
“Our images express ideas on different kinds of wedding celebrations that could be possible in this ever changing modern society we live in. From the decadent pleasure seekers to the earthy mystics, all brought together by the alliance of love.”
