Rachel and Raymon based their wedding on Rachel’s favourite childhood book and film – Alice in Wonderland! They had oodles of personalised and special details including the mismatched chairs, the vintage door seating chart, having clocks as table numbers and their chequered dance floor.
“I met Ray through my older sister”, began the bride. “Her husband had been close friends with Ray since high school. We hung out as a group a few times then Ray finally asked me out for dinner. Being the protective older sister that Victoria is, she didn’t approve at first since Ray was three years older than me. Long story short, everything worked out and we all couldn’t be happier that we can call each other family!”
The ceremony was held at Paul Hardy Studio and the reception at the Marriot Hotel , Calgary. They totally transformed both spaces with the help of their wedding planners Hera Weddings and Events . “Get a good wedding planner!” Rachel advises. “I don’t think we could’ve done it without Rachel and Jesse. Our theme definitely would not have been executed as well and they were our biggest stress reliever.”
“Oh and splurge on photography for sure! Take in every moment of your special day, it goes way too fast. Finally, don’t sweat the small things that may go wrong, you’re probably the only two who will notice.”

A Modern Wedding on an Aeroplane: Robyn & Tom

Both air traffic controllers, and with a mutual attention to detail and love for planes, Robyn & Tom were thrilled when they were allowed to get married on a Pacific Western plane at Edmonton Aviation Museum. "It took a lot of convincing but the museum were gracious to allow the bride and groom to use the airplane", explained their Canadian wedding photographer Elizabeth of ENV Photography. "Guests were assigned seats on a seating chart that mimicked the chart that you pick your seat from when booking your plane ticket! Prior to the groom walking down, his sons and daughter walked down the aisle and handed out cookies to all the guests - just like a real airline!"

Yeah...so...um...speechless.
....
Seriously people! get a load of this sheeeeeit. OK OK let me get myself together for a second....
Margaret sent me a sneak peek to her incredible wedding to Edi back in October and I had to wait until this week to see the rest of them. Do you know how hard that has been for me?! I actually teased the above photo on Twitter the other day and someone replied asking if it was a photograph of heaven...that's a pretty accurate assumption I think!
The couple were legally married at Edi's parent's house and the reception took place in the fairytale setting of The Bali Room in the Kempinski Hotel, Jakarta and Margaret told me all about it.
"Our theme was Alice in Wonderland. I picked Alice for my theme, because I've loved it since I was a little kid and because my Mom's name is Alice. The main colour was dark purple because purple represents magical and darkness in the same time. its so glamorous! Our family members wore purple shade outfits."

A Whimsical Alice in Wonderland Wedding: Kristi & Ben

Our Labor of Love, Sharkpig, The Flashdance, Smilebooth.... oh boy did Kristi & Ben have the dream team behind their San Francisco wedding! With an Alice in Wonderland theme and a ceremony at the Golden Gate Park, they really did go all out to make their wedding day extra special. The reception was held at RF-80, a studio space in the city.
"Our inspiration was the eclectic city we live in combined with a love for all things imaginative", began the bride. "We wanted a wedding that wasn’t cookie cutter and that reflected both of our personalities. There were a lot of DIY elements involved. I scoured wedding blogs for my ideas. I also got inspiration from magazines and store windows. I would recommend figuring out what is doable within your timeframe or it can all get overwhelming. Enlist your friends, buy or make some cake, pop open some champagne and get crafting. It saves you money and gives such a personal touch to your wedding. I'd also advise other no not listen to the masses, they will scowl at your ideas, mostly because they’ve either never seen anything like it before or can’t get the proper visual. It’s your day, do what you want."

When Carin & Pouya got engaged, the bride instantly knew what their wedding theme would be - Broadway musical! "I have always loved Broadway musicals and three years ago Pouya took me to my first live production - The Wizard of Oz", Carin writes. "I was instantly hooked! Since then I've got season tickets to Broadway performances across Canada including our hometown of Edmonton. I never thought of incorporating that into the wedding, but after a while the Broadway musical theme came to me while I was bored one day in a class in University. I was looking around on the internet when I saw a wedding program that looked like a playbill and the ideas spiraled from there!"

October 19, 2012
Alice in Wonderland themed weddings have been pretty popular since the Tim Burton version of the story was released in 2010, but that doesn't mean I don't still love to see them!
