Lara and Gav were married in Lara’s parent’s back garden. They set up a marquee and decorated it with collected and borrowed items from friends and junk shops. “The garden was beyond perfect despite the rain”, explained the bride. “It has been lovingly created and maintained by my parents since they moved in 15 years ago. It has always played host to whimsical parties, and lent itself brilliantly to the occasion.”
“We wanted the day to be as communal as possible and accordingly roped in as many guests as we possibly could”, she continued. “Everyone was most happy to oblige, and this communal feeling was ultimately the theme and what really made the day for both of us, and everyone involved.”
“Aesthetically we wanted a slightly mad version of a well loved country house to be spilling out into a slightly eccentric garden. Detailed outdoor/ indoor roomscapes provided the key focus and vehicle for realising this. Clothing, food, flowers etc were to look as if they were all emerging from, and at home in, the house, but with a good dose of ‘more is more’ which very much became the mantra of the decorating committee as the day drew closer.”
“We wanted the day to be fun, memorable, and personal but it was essential to us that our guests felt comfortable and were entertained throughout the day. We chose a book from the everyman library for each guest as their wedding favour and stamped it so it could also act as their usher cards. Inspired by US style Welcome Packs that have recently become fashionable, we also gave each guest a wedding survival kit. We tried to make the day a little irreverent so that the emotion didn’t get too overwhelming.”
