Photography: Feather and Stone
Oh I do love a good workshop. This week I spent most of my time at the Photography Farm where a bunch of wedding photographers and I spent the whole time getting to know each other and gassing about our favourite topics – weddings, photography and blogging! There really is nothing better than spending time with like-minded nerds. I always leave these kinds of environments feeling super inspired and invigorated push myself and my business to the next level.
So I have some homework for you this weekend. If it’s been a while since you hung out with some industry friends in real life (Twitter chats do not count!) and nerded out, then do it… do it now! I promise you’ll feel better for it afterwards and head home with a brain-full of new ideas or at least a big boost of motivation!

I'm sorry to burst that bubble, but it doesn't really work like that. You have to know what you're doing, you have to have a strategy in place and you have to work and rework at it to keep your marketing campaign effective.

The Inspirations: Naomi Davis of Love Taza

I discovered Naomi's blog, The Rockstar Diaries, in early 2009, when she published her wedding photographs. I immediately fell in love with her and her husband Josh's effortless style and achingly cool attitude. I loved the way they shared cute little stories about their life as newlyweds - getting married, setting up home, moving from New York to DC, getting their dog Kingsley, having their first child... It was all very unpretentious and honest and I felt connected with them instantly.
So therefore I thought Naomi would be the perfect person to interview today. If you have a blog and you worry about what to share about yourself, then Naomi and her family are the perfect role models to inspire you.

OK so that's not strictly true. I love to get feedback from my readers and it's awesome to see so many encouraging words after I've published something. However recently there's been a massive shift in how people interact with and read blogs and, for the most part, these factors mean that across the board blog comments are going down. If you think of your comments as some kind of indicator to the success of an article, then this sudden lack of validation can be incredibly discouraging.

What I Wish I’d Known When I Started My Business

February 4, 2014
I was lying in bed one Saturday night, mulling over everything I had to get done that coming week, and my thoughts suddenly shifted to how different my life was when I was just starting my blog and business. I pondered, if I knew then what I know now, would I ever have even have registered my domain? Or would it have all just felt too big, too scary and too unattainable to even try? I didn't really have a plan or any goals for my blog when I started out, I simply wanted to write about weddings, but if I did, would it have made a difference to how things panned out?

Marketing Your Wedding Business & How to Avoid Being a Spammer
Kat
June 12, 2012
It's difficult this self-promotion thing. On one hand you want to scream and shout about your latest venture, and on the other you're slightly paranoid and embarrassed about the whole ordeal (how frightfully British!) It's a fine line between forging a successful marketing campaign and coming across as an annoying spammer, and so today, dear reader, I thought I'd compile a few tips that I've picked up over the past few years. Of course this isn't a finite list, it is merely a collection of musings I've gathered together after being at the receiving end of one too many terrible marketing campaigns.
