Have I got something to end this week with a bang or what? Have you ever seen a wedding quite like this?! Themed weddings can get a bit of a bad rep, but when done well, and as an authentic representation of the couple, I don’t think there’s anything quite as fun. Who’s with me?
Christine & Charles met at a Star Trek convention at Altamonte Hilton, which they then chose as their wedding venue too. “Our wedding was a traditional Klingon wedding”, began the bride. “All of our guests used the opportunity to dress any way they wanted. Others may have thought this to be like a Halloween party but the celebration was a party of real friends to be as they wished. I made nearly everything myself including both of our outfits.”
“The ceremony was a traditional Klingon wedding”, Christine explained. “The Klingon wedding was a highly ritualized ceremony, resembling an opera. Klingon warriors beating their drums received the couple as the Lady of the Great House of the groom recited the traditional story of the Klingon creation, in which the Klingon male and female were created and joined together and rose up against their gods. My groom’s ‘Tawi’Yan’ presented the couple with bat’leths (REAL and sharp!) and we they did mock battle with each other in representation of the struggle of the male and female Klingon hearts against one another. After we recited our vows, swearing to unite against all their opponents, the guests attacked us with ceremonial weapons, the ma’Staka! After the kiss, the guests yelled ‘Qapla!’, which means success in Klingon!”
“We didn’t really love our flowers, but other than that we wouldn’t have changed a thing about our wedding”, Christine concluded. “It was everything we had imagined and was a total blast. I’d advise other brides and grooms to throw tradition to the wind, be themselves and have the wedding they always wished for. When you are authentic, the love and happiness is shared with all of your guests and an amazing time is to be had.”
