London wedding photographer Ann Charlotte set up this morning’s editorial shoot in order to showcase an idea she’d had running through her head for a while. “I love fairytales and this fictional fairytale wedding/fashion shoot was inspired by Alice in Wonderland and the idea of a runaway bride. I wanted to shoot a misunderstood bride, running away from her wedding in tears. After some soul searching she eventually came back home to a waiting husband-to-be and a reconciliation.”
Like with many of the fashion-led shoots I feature, this certainly won’t be for everyone, but I love the fact that this shoot pushes the boundaries of what might be expected in a ‘styled wedding shoot’ and focuses on the people and their story rather than the ‘stuff’. The bride’s outfit is also pretty bad ass no?!

As a girl who's more than slightly obsessed with weddings and photography, there's pretty much nothing more thrilling to me than discovering new (to me) wedding photographer that is INCREDIBLE. It doesn't happen very often, but when it does I feel like I've won the wedding-blogging-lottery. A photo shoot featuring the Rock n Roll Bride planning notebooks!? Oh yes that's one sure-fired way to get my attention!
"We styled the whole shoot ourselves using items from eBay (and of course the Rock n Roll Bride notebook," photographer Jaye of Tux & Tales Photography told me. "We decided we would do a few styled shoots ourselves on a shoestring budget. I think it is a great way to show brides that they can have a fun and fab style with a little pocket change and a lot of elbow grease. I hope you enjoy my ultra-rad millinery. Picture me sitting on the living room floor, feathers flying everywhere whilst my cat tries to run off with the hat in his mouth every time I turn around to get another feather. The bouquet I made myself out of crepe paper. Boo (our model) is a burlesque performer so she did her own hair & make up!"

At first glance, this is a gorgeous wedding full of all the details that Rock n Roll Bride readers go nuts for. But this is actually a styled shoot! And it has a beautiful story behind it...
Vanessa ('Vanny') and Martin are very close friends of photographers Anna and Johannes. When they were all children, Anna's little sister brought her friend Vanny home from school. Vanny's father had died of cancer and her mum had a new boyfriend and so was almost never home. Vanny was mostly living off pizza and soft drinks, said Anna. "Since my family is very sociable (and crazy), we kind of adopted Vanny and so she spent a lot of time with us during those years, and we went through a lot together. Johannes and I had a styled shoot planned, and we asked Vanny and her boyfriend Martin to be the models. What they didn't tell us was that not only they were freshly engaged, but they were also expecting a baby! Our shoot then turned out to be half styled and half real wedding, with me doing a speech in church, everybody crying, and our friends playing the parts of the bridal party!"

Last October I was honoured to be asked to act as a judge for the bridalNEXT! awards which were taking place as part of A Most Curious Wedding Fair. Alongside fellow judges Peta Hunt, fashion editor of You & Your Wedding Magazine, Rachel Atwell, owner of swanky London wedding boutique Luella’s Boudoir, and Hazel Holtham of vintage store & blog Rag and Bow we selected Veronica Dearly as our overall winner, and the one to watch for 2013.
As part of the prize Veronica and the three runners up were invited to take part in an editorial fashion shoot. Now I don't know about you, but if this is the caliber of bridal talent coming out in 2013, it's going to be a very exciting year indeed.

Mandy & Zoe, the ladies behind both companies, styled, crafted and photographed the whole shoot themselves.
