“Your blog inspired me to reach for the stars,” wrote newlywed Katherine. “We began our seven month wedding planning journey with no theme and no colours…I did not want to be restricted. We choose wedding elements that we loved…not because they matched or fit a certain criteria and let it come together organically. I love everything whimsical…so it was a natural progression for our wedding to have whimsical elements.”
The ceremony was held at St Stephen’s Cathedral, Brisbane, and the couple rocked up in a blue Cadillac belonging to their friends. “Afterwards, 40 of our family and friends boarded a boat for a twilight cruise on the Brisbane river…it was magical! We chartered a 2 level boat; with an open top deck and enclosed area downstairs where we had a buffet dinner & desert. We walked around with no shoes on, mingled, ate, drank and had a good time! It was so nice & relaxing with just our family and closest friends.”
The bride even wore Rock n Roll Bride favourites Vivien of Holloway (dress) and Irregular Choice (shoes). “I didn’t want a big, puffy, long wedding dress. I had no specific look in mind. however, knew I did not want a traditional wedding dress. I first choose my shoes which were bright blue with polka dots & bunny rabbits…all things I heart so much!! Marc then chose my beautiful dress which I then took to my dressmaker to have a bright blue sash and big bow added! I also added a whimsical giant butterfly ring. I never felt the need to wear two rings…the engagement ring and the wedding ring. I told Marc I did not want the traditional diamond…I wanted something pretty and something different. I have always had a love of dark blue (almost black) sapphires, so when Marc got down on one knee and presented the most beautiful sapphire ring to me, it literally took my breath away.”
“I didn’t want a function room. I didn’t want to do a seating plan! I didn’t want speeches. I didn’t want favors! I didn’t want all the formalities…because it’s just not us! I didn’t want what anyone else had. I wanted our day to reflect us and not some idea of what a wedding ‘should’ or ‘has to’ look like. Our big day came to be known as ‘the non-wedding wedding’!”
“I think back to our day and it makes me smile!”
…and isn’t that what it’s all about people?
Huge love and congratulations to Katherine & Marc and thank you so much for sharing your inspirational wedding with us today.
