Andrew and Brittney gave themselves just four months to plan their August 2018 wedding. It was important to the couple to keep sustainability and frugality in mind with all the decision making for their wedding day. They had a $10,000 maximum budget, but in reality they managed to keep it just under $9,000. They held the day at Brittney’s parents back garden which meant they didn’t have to shell out for expensive venue hire.

This is a bit of a bittersweet feature today as the bride, Kathy, is battling breast cancer and is currently in her final few days. As Kathy's heath had taken a bad turn, and after twelve years together, the couple decided to finally do everything they ever wanted to do with whatever time they have left, including getting married. They were married on 17th May in a day full of love, colour and punk rock!. They planned their utterly bad ass day with just a £2000 budget and a hell of a lot of love and support from all their friends and family.

Andrew and Ariana met just over five years ago at a tattoo shop in the Lower East Side neighbourhood of New York City. The owner of the shop, a mutual friend, had been scheming for months to try to get the couple together and the timing finally worked out on Andrew's birthday in 2015. They spent the night dancing and making out at a dive bar downtown and that was it - from that point on they were inseparable. Their next date, just three days later, lasted for thirteen hours. “We knew that was it” said Ariana.

One Night Cereus

Matthew and Hillary wanted every aspect, from beginning to the end of their wedding day to feel very true to their personalities, their personal style and the things that they love. “We really wanted our guests feel like it was a wedding only we would have,” said Hillary. “ Our motto for the day ended up being ‘aesethic or forget it!’ We wanted to focus on what we love and share that with our guests, instead of focusing on traditions and the things we ‘should do.’”

When you’re planning your wedding, it’s a wonderful opportunity to bring your friends and family together to celebrate all the different layers that make the two of you… you! All those hobbies, interests and passions you share can be whisked up to make a sweet, unique, you-flavoured cake, with all the sprinkles and decorations you might fancy. Unfortunately, however, a wedding day is often viewed by others as an opportunity to throw their own ingredients into the mix. When this happens… how can you express yourself and stand up for what you want… so that you can get the sweet result you dreamed of

I always love writing for Rock n Roll Bride in January. I love picturing all the new readers, who got engaged over the holidays, giddily unwrapping their first issue and settling down with a hot chocolate by the fire. I love thinking about some of our more seasoned readers, who can now start saying that their wedding is “this year” instead of “next year” … (Eeee! So exciting!) And I love having a chance to remind every Rock n Roll Bride reader out there exactly WHY they have chosen this wonderful magazine as their sparkly little helper on their wedding-planning journey.

When Hannah and Nate decided to tie the knot, they knew they didn't have a lot to spend, but that wasn't going to stop them having the wedding they wanted. Both line cooks, they were lucky enough to be offered the restaurant where the bride works as their venue, which they used after hours. Everything else was homemade and their secondhand outfits were pieced together from pieces found at Poshmark and Goodwill, totalling less than $50 combined!

The inspiration for Nino and Basti's wedding was their shared love for the underwater world, sea creatures, and the dreams they hold for the future. “We called our theme Seensucht nach Meer, which means ‘Longing for the Sea,’” Nino shared. “I’ve always loved sea creatures, and we both dream of retiring in Tenerife one day.” Their day, filled with DIY touches and small but meaningful moments, showed how intentional choices can transform even a civil ceremony into something unforgettable.

Rhiannon and Gunnar chose a completely private, self-uniting ceremony at Trough Creek Park in James Creek, Pennsylvania. A week later, they hosted a micro-reception with 17 guests. As an introverted couple who don’t enjoy being the centre of attention, they found that something small, private, and meaningful was the perfect fit. Their total wedding budget was $3,500, with their primary expenses being food and drinks.

When Alice and Amy envisioned their wedding day, they knew it wouldn’t fit neatly into tradition’s rigid mold. They wanted a day that reflected their love and individuality—one that embraced who they were as partners, best friends, and creatives. "We wanted a wedding that summed us up," Alice said. "Alternative, but also personal. So much of the wedding industry isn't designed with couples like us in mind."

Moody November Wedding at a Gothic New York Mansion

The Cardinals

January 22, 2025

Meghan and Chris’s November wedding was held at a gothic style mansion in the Catskills, New York. They were entranced by the venue, which was filled with rich history, and stunning woods surrounding it. They really tried to make it their own; the first dance, for example, was done behind a curtain with a spotlight so their 75 guests could only see their silhouettes. They also had a tarot card reader as an option for guests who didn't want to dance in the evening.

The Rose Reflective

December 11, 2024

I recently saw a Thread where the poster pointed out that luxury wedding workshop shoots often exclude marginalised couples or those with tattoos, piercings, or other alternative styles. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about how accurate that is! As you know, I’m all about celebrating alternative shoots and weddings (obviously!), but just because someone doesn’t appear to be straight, white, or fit a certain body ideal doesn’t mean they aren’t interested in the luxury end of the wedding market.
